Half-Day Horseback Riding Camp (8:30-12:30)
English Hunt Seat
For boys and girls ages 7 to 14 featuring instruction in riding and
horse care. Campers may bring their own pony or ride one of ours. All
levels are welcome. Beginners learn to properly groom, tack and
understand the correct design of position and aids to walk, trot, halt
and steer the horse. More advanced levels improve through ring and
uneven terrain work, combinations and courses. Trail riding is a part
of the lessons. Each camp ends with a fun show!
Riding boots and ASTM/SEI approved helmet required. Riding hats and
boots may be borrowed or purchased from Grovespring Farm.
Full Day Riding Camp (8:30-3:30)
In past years we have wanted to do more in the
riding camp than time allows. For those riders
who are a little bit older and already have some
riding skills, we are offering a full day riding
camp.
The full day camp will be more intense and in
depth. Not only will we have the opportunity to
ride at least twice during the course of the day, we
will cover more stable material. In addition to
grooming, tacking and basic horse care, we will
delve into: lunging, bandaging, lameness,
shoeing, shipping and nutrition. Campers will
have the opportunity to talk with the veterinarian,
equine dentist and farrier during the course of the
week.
On the horses there will be sessions in the ring, in
the field and on the trail. We use the American
National Riding Commission (ANRC) testing,
and there will be an opportunity to achieve a National
Rider Rating at the end of the course.
