Riding LessonsWe offer quality hunt-seat equitation riding instruction, beginner through advanced levels, for people of all ages. The lesson program is designed to produce well-rounded, educated riders. Instruction begins on the lunge line. More advanced riders will develop skills through extensive flat work, combinations and courses both in and out of the ring. Trail riding and uneven terrain work are incorporated into the instruction. Horse care and ground work are also a part of the lessons. Reminder: We will have lessons rain or shine. If the weather prevents us from riding we will work on horsemanship skills such as braiding, grooming, clipping, proper tack care and maintenance, stable management, farm safety, horse nutrition, wrapping, stall cleaning . . . A note from Kim Parker on barn lessons: “In the past, bad weather days were utilized with groundwork such as tack cleaning, grooming, and clipping. I did not think Taylor was benefiting from this. I felt, if I was paying for lessons, she should be riding. I was wrong. When Taylor started attending horse shows, she needed to know how to braid her pony’s mane and tail as well as proper turn out for the show ring. She needed to know how to load and tie the pony on the trailer, how to wrap for support or shipping. Good tack care to be sure the equipment is clean and in good condition is very important. What to pack for the trailer for the horse and the rider for a day or a weekend involves more than one might think. The Virginia State Horse Show was wonderful. If Taylor did not have some of this training she would have had more trouble understanding how and why things had to be done a certain way for her pony. We had a great time. I want to commend Susan for her training, knowledge and care for Taylor and the ponies. Good horsemanship includes more than just riding. Groundwork is an extremely important part.” We are currently taking new students. Please email or call 540-727-0271 if interested. Instructors Fees Teaching Asst.
